The Power of Community Endowments
- Community endowments, sometimes called unrestricted endowments, provide resources for our community to meet future needs, assist an existing program, or even start a new program.
- Funding is granted by the local board for purposes which are meaningful and timely.
- Community Endowments have provided beautification, emergency medical, recreational and arts and cultural opportunities in Sullivan County.
Clay County
Total Awarded 2021-2023: $292,117
Cass Township Trustee — $15,631 for playground upgrades.
Clay City High School — $5,000 in support of upgraded equipment for community fitness center.
Clay City USA Foundation — $15,000 for library façade and exterior repairs.
Clay City Youth League — $6,135 to purchase bleacher seating at ball fields.
Chances and Services for Youth — $5,000 for the expansion of the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring program in Clay County.
Community Theatre of Clay County — $15,500 for sewage system repair and basement clean-up.
Cory/Perry Township Volunteer Fire Department — $20,000 in support of playground area renovation.
Eliza Rizley Stacey Chapter, NSDAR — $7,500 in support of the No Veteran Without a Flag program, specifically for permanent flag holders at the gravesites of veterans in Clay County cemeteries.
Launch Academy — $6,250 towards foundation drainage upgrades.
Posey Township Volunteer Fire Department — $14,000 to upgrade officers’ radios and pagers.
Clay County 4-H Council – $9,562 to replace furnace at Exhibit Hall
Clay County Humane Society – $25,000 to replace specialized HVAC system
Town of Center Point – $18,000 for Center Point Community Park equipment upgrades
Wreath, Inc. – $10,437 for playground expansion
Brazil Main Street – $21,500 for downtown Brazil holiday decorations
Clay County YMCA – $11,500 for new electronic sign
Bowling Green Old Settlers Reunion, Inc. – $8,000 for historic roadside sign replacement
Center Point Volunteer Fire Department – $12,000 for new turn-out gear for firefighters
Clay Co. Indiana Council on Aged & Aging, Inc. – $7,482 for kitchen upgrade
Clay County Genealogical Society – $8,620 for basement and bathroom upgrades
Clay County YMCA – $10,000 to upgrade building to 24-hour access facility
Harrison Township Board of Trustees – $25,000 for playground safety improvements and equipment upgrades at Goshen Park
Society of St. Vincent de Paul – $15,000 for new building to house the food pantry
Sullivan County

City of Sullivan — $15,000 for the creation of the City of Sullivan Senior Center.
Junior Achievement of the Wabash Valley — $2,200 in support of the Launch program in Sullivan County.
Salvation Army — $10,000 emergency grant in support of Sullivan tornado recovery.
Sullivan County Park & Lake — $9,000 for lake dredging and maintenance of surrounding bodies of water.
Sullivan County Youth Sports Complex — $20,000 to construct softball diamond fencing.
Town of Shelburn — $12,000 for ball diamond repairs and upgrades to public areas.
Carlisle Lions Community Ambulance Service Inc – $20,000 for a motorized lift
Heart of Sullivan – $15,000 to install an ADA ramp and update equipment at Sullivan City Park
Humane Society of Sullivan County – $6,000 to assist with the drainage of the facility’s outdoors area which has become flood-prone due to neighboring construction
Northeast East Elementary School – $1,000 for the purchase of custodial equipment
Ruth House – $5,885 towards technology and marketing materials
St. Mary’s Community Kitchen & Pantry – $4,500 to purchase products, supplies and necessities
Sullivan City Fire Department – $16,000 for the purchase of thermal imaging cameras
Sullivan City Police Department – $6,440 to acquire tables and chairs to conduct in-house training
Sullivan County Public Library – $8,898 towards the purchase of archival, storage and display supplies to properly handle and preserve historical items received from the Sullivan County History Museum
City of Sullivan – $50,000 for the new City Pool’s Lily Pad Walk
Merom Improvement Association – $5,000 for the installation of water and electricity for campers at Merom Bluff Park
Rural Community Academy – $5,500 for family counseling focused on mental health and behavior wellness
Sullivan Art Guild – $2,700 to paint a mural on the outside of a building on the Sullivan square
Sullivan County Emergency Management Agency – $8,330 for a back-up generator for new EMA building
Sullivan County Youth Sports Complex – $20,000 to create an additional parking lot at the complex
Town of Shelburn – $25,000 for renovation of the Community Building
Vigo County

12 Points Revitalization — $8,000 in support of creating a “Historic Walking Tour” in 12 Points and Collett Park neighborhood.
14th & Chestnut Community Center — $22,200 for the renovations of their rooms.
Camp Navigate —$17,320 in support of a security guard at the Leaders Lab (an after-after school care pilot program) at Benjamin Franklin Elementary School.
Chances and Services for Youth— $7,500 in support of Innovative Readiness Training to provide medical/health assistance for our community’s underserved population.
Council on Domestic Abuse (CODA) — $4,800 in support of HVAC repair at the shelter facility.
The Douglass Project — $15,000 in support of the creation and installation of a limestone and bronze bas relief marker in downtown Terre Haute to commemorate the life and work of Frederick Douglass.
Junior Achievement in the Wabash Valley — $15,000 in support of school sponsorship program to benefit 600 Vigo County students.
More Than a Phone — $5,000 to provide four months of unlimited data in support of domestic abuse victims participating in CODA’s transitional housing program.
Optimist Club — $20,000 in support of the Clothe-A-Child program for children in need.
Pathways Day Center — $50,000 to Reach Services to assist in the restoration and the reopening of the Center, which serves the homeless community.
Project Never Broken — $10,000 for the creation of a speaker seminar series specifically for law enforcement officers and their spouses, addressing the mental challenges of a public safety career.
reTHink — $5,000 to purchase a laptop for the plastic upcycling workshop and a T.V. for educational programming.
Riley Recreation League — $7,500 to renovate the parking lot to better accommodate the ongoing growth of the program.
Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology — $20,000 to EMERGE (Electronic Mentoring Environment to Recruit Girls to Engineering)
Sheldon Swope Art Museum — $20,250 in support of gallery lighting upgrades, including modernized track lighting with remote control settings.
St. Joseph University Parish — $12,500 in support of a utility assistance fund for those in need in the community.
Terre Haute Humane Society — $25,000 to provide a low-cost veterinary clinic.
Terre Haute Symphony Association — $10,000 in support of Adventure Concerts Music Education Program – an additional concert and recording.
Terre Haute Women’s Club — $10,000 in support of the Shoe Bus Project for the purchase of new athletic shoes for the children of the Vigo County School Corporation.
THRIVE West Central — $20,000 in support of launching a program that will support a robust internship, focusing on direct employer engagement and professional development.
United Way of the Wabash Valley — $54,000 in support of a newly established, three-year Social Worker position with the THPD.
Vigo County Education Foundation — $6,000 in support of new books for first grade children receiving intervention through the Reading Recovery program.
Vigo County Public Library — $25,000 to purchase equipment and appliances for the community kitchen at the new Twelve Points library site.
Vigo Superior Court 2 — $20,000 in support of professional supervised parenting time. This program is in collaboration with various organizations, primarily Gibault.
12 Points Brown Bag Project— $3,000 for nutrition and hygiene items to provide to residents of two public housing units.
Arts Illiana — $7,500 for art exhibitions and workshops for local artists.
Art Spaces — $25,000 to support the creation of a sculpture in Deming Park, celebrating the story of Lost Creek settlement.
Blood Services Vigo County – American Red Cross — $5,000 for supplies for local blood drives.
CANDLES Museum — $8,000 to digitize the Eva Kor Collection.
Catholic Charities — $10,000 for employee security training.
Chances and Services for Youth — $20,000 to support the Big Brothers Big Sister program.
Crossroads of America Council, Boy Scouts of America — $10,000 for ScoutReach program.
Intrepid Phoenix — $14,600 to support Fitness for Recovery (a substance abuse disorder recovery program).
Ivy Tech Foundation — $25,000 to support capital improvements to the health sciences building on the Terre Haute campus.
Linda Luebke Strings Festival — $5,000 for scholarships and program expenses for the two-day strings festival involving youth throughout Vigo County.
Lost Creek Township — $20,000 for Garden Trail restroom facility.
Mollie Wheat Memorial Clinic — $2,500 for Women’s Health Day event.
Next Step — $15,000 for Recovery Café Terre Haute.
Providence Health Care — $10,120 for a blanket warming machine.
REACH Services — $25,000 to support a technology and education expansion of Pathways.
Saint Joseph University Parish — $12,500 for Utility Assistance Fund.

United Way of the Wabash Valley — $20,000 for the launch of the African American Board Leadership Institute.
Vigo County Historical Society — $25,000 for repairs to the Paul Dresser Home.
YMCA — $25,000 for sensory tools/equipment.

Collett Park Neighborhood Association — $20,000 Creation of futsal court and a dog park in Collett Park for public use.
Council on Domestic Abuse, Inc. — $13,925 Day Nursery grant for childcare scholarships $2,500.00 Flex Fund program support.
CRADLES of Clay County — $4,000 Need-based daycare scholarships.
Hamilton Center, Inc. — $14,500 for establishing a permanent space for the youth mentoring program and the purchase of kitchen, laundry and electronic equipment.
Happiness Bag, Inc. — $25,000 for a building expansion matching grant
History Center of Vigo County — $2,000 for ceiling repair at the Dresser House.
Ivy Tech Foundation — $25,000 for capital improvements to the health sciences building on the Terre Haute campus.
The Maple Center — $7,398 for technology updates needed for virtual programming.
Meals on Wheels, Inc. — $24,000 for new building updates and nutrition needs.
Network For Good (NFG) — $35,200 to offer a third cohort of up to six NPOs, the NFG fundraising software and personal coaching program for one year, as well as to offer support to the four organizations currently finishing year one of the program.
Sheldon Swope Art Museum, Inc. – $25,000 Door replacements required by fire code.
Pride Center of Terre Haute- $15,000 Program support.

Terre Haute Symphony Association— $16,000 for the purchase of recording equipment and video production, as well as support for the band and office staff.
Vigo County School Corporation — $11,500 to support the Team Vigo Student Leadership Conference and Service Learning Project ($6,500) and for an appreciation lunch for VCSC employees ($5,000).
Youth Grant Committee Endowment Fund — $400 for granting and volunteer activities of the Youth Grant Committee.
