Chances and Services for Youth (CASY) Challenge Grant for Child Care Center

Chances and Services for Youth is seeking to develop a childcare center on the eastside of Terre Haute. The site is currently a 50,000 square-foot warehouse that will be converted in a childcare center for over 280 children.

Phase 1 will cost $6.8 million, including the purchase of the building and nine additional acres for the capacity of 192 children. Phase 2 will cost $2 million for an additional capacity of 96 children.

Project Highlights:

  • The center will seek to become a military certified childcare center to support members the active duty and the full-time 181st military base community.
  • The goal of the center is to provide families on the CCDF voucher program with affordable, high-quality childcare options.
  • CASY will be working with the local Child Care Resource and Referral program and other childcare related state partners including, but not limited to, Office of Early Childhood and Out of School Learning, SPARK Learning Lab and Indiana Association of the Education of Young Children.
  • This center will support the efforts of local higher education institutions and the Vigo County School Corporation to increase the workforce of early childhood learning in West Central Indiana.
  • This project will support the economic growth of the eastside community, while simultaneously supporting other areas of Vigo and Clay counties
