Rachel Marie Romas loved her community, friends, family, and dogs with a fierce passion. She
invested her life in making her community a better place and making those who met her better
people.
Rachel worked hard to make the community better for all who live and work here. She
volunteered for many organizations including: Relay for Life, Bowl for Kid’s Sake, Big Brother
Big Sister, Altrusa, Dancing with the Terre Haute Stars, Board of Directors for the Wabash
Valley Community Foundation and the Popcorn Festival Committee.
Rachel believed in the importance of education, graduating from Northview then attending Saint
Mary-of- the-Woods College for both her undergraduate and postgraduate degrees.
Rachel was diagnosed with Wilms Tumor of the Kidney at the age of four, and had been in
remission for 27 years before her 2016 diagnosis. She passed away on February 7, 2017,
following a short battle with Acute Lymphoblastic T-Cell Lymphoma.
This scholarship has been established to preserve her memory and assist accepted students of the
Woods to follow in her footsteps of community engagement and leadership.
